Brac University organized a virtual orientation program for the Fall-2020 semester on 17 October, 2020. This virtual orientation saw a much higher number of attendances than before. The university is conducting its orientation program successfully over the virtual platform Zoom for last two semesters because of COVID-19 Pandemic.
The program opened with commemorating the legacy of the founder of Brac University, late Sir Fazle Hasan Abed KCMG, who passed away last year. Brac University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Vincent Chang welcomed the freshmen to the university through his inspiring words. “This is not an ordinary time. The time is challenging since we had to shift to online classroom. The university is caring and considerate enough with the issues students are facing. Brac university has established the Student Assistance Fund to help as many students as possible during this difficult period”, he said. He also encouraged the students to do their parts in this difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic and shared his own experience of online learning when he was working on his Ph.D. at MIT.
The session was conducted by Abdullah R. Chowdhury, Proctor of the university. The students were given an overview of the university and academic activities through his presentations. A special audio-visual was also played signifying this extraordinary time while students are stepping into the new stage of their lives.
Brac University Alumnus Rakshinda Huq, student at Western Sydney University, shared her experience with the freshmen. The department heads as well as the faculty members also attended this virtual orientation.
