Students’ platform BRAC University Community Service Club organized a daylong blood donation campaign, “SAVE A DROP 2.0”, at the university’s Mohakhali campus auditorium on 19 October, 2022 in association with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and BRAC University Medical Center.
Dave Dowland, Registrar, and Tahsina Rahman, Joint Director of Student Life, went round inquiring about the wellbeing of the donors and at the end of the day 142 bags of blood were collected. “The Red Crescent Bangladesh Society announced our event as their biggest blood donation event in terms of the amount of blood collected from a university after Covid lockdowns were lifted,” said the club’s President Umma Maimuna Alam.
This was the second blood donation campaign organized by the club. Previously it had carried out initiatives such as a campus cleaning campaign with Gazi Group, providing books, stationery and iftar to underpriviledged children, spending time at orphanages, distributing clothes among low-income families in winter and collecting Tk 1.20 lakh during the pandemic to distribute as financial assistance. Formed in 2016, the club is currently comprised of around 75 volunteers.
