A five-member student team of BRAC University has been adjudged champions of an inter-university competition on addressing pressing social and environmental issues at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) recently.
The ULAB Social Welfare Club had launched “Tamisha Group Presents InspireSphere: Let's Make the Changes” in July focusing mental health, poverty alleviation, youth empowerment, literacy rate, and animal welfare in alignment with nine of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
The BRAC University student team comprised Shanen Anne Gomes, Sujana Afrin Khan and Lamisa Manha Aditee from the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences while Jerin Saida Islam and Syed Abdullah Jabeer from the School of Law.
Their “Project Cyber Health” was on creating a comprehensive cyber health ecosystem to combat cyber threats and promoting digital well-being in tune with “SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being”.
The approach involved fostering collaborations with schools and educational institutions and engaging students, teachers, and parents to raise awareness, provide practical guidance, and empower individuals to protect themselves in the digital age.
This highlights BRAC University's vision and mission on fostering academic excellence in the Global South for societal impact and human flourishing.
At a ceremony marking the finals at the ULAB on 1 November 2024, the BRAC University team was also awarded Tk 30,000 in prize money.
Over 100 students from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Jahangirnagar University, North South University and other renowned educational institutions took part in the contest.
