BRAC University Computer Club (BUCC) organized a webinar on its Facebook page titled “Conquer Logical Reasoning with Kaykobad Sir” on 31 January, 2022. The event aimed to share ways for developing logical reasoning and analytical skills through brainstorming. Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad, Distinguished Professor of BRAC University, explained that analytical thinking cannot be achieved through memorisation. It rather requires critical thinking and engaging in solving problems.
Bangladesh has performed really well at International Collegiate Programming Contest, an algorithmic programming contest for university students, in recent years, said Dr. Kaykobad while showcasing the results. He laid emphasis on nurturing talent locally so that foreign experts need not be hired for the country’s development projects. He urged all students to think of themselves as global citizens and train themselves by practicing analytical thinking through solving a wide range of problems.
On how logical reasoning is connected to real life, Dr Kaykobad said the procedure of logically comprehending a problem was hardly described in real life. It is one’s own decision to individually solve a problem using logical reasoning. Those who are weak in mathematics need not worry as there are also problems which require only logical knowledge to be solved, he said. Responding to a question, Dr Kaykobad said students would need analytical skills and logical reasoning to prepare their theses to achieve their university degrees. Thesis involves finding probable solutions which are yet to be discovered for a particular problem.
Dr. Kaykobad recommended choosing a field of interest to specialize on and requested sticking to it and not giving up easily. Because life is too short to experiment with everything, he said. The webinar was hosted by Mahdi Hossain, Senior Executive, Event Management, BUCC, and Ishrat Tasnim Awishi, Executive, Communication & Marketing, BUCC.
