The Counseling Unit of BRAC University organised a “Parenting Seminar” at the university’s Mohakhali campus auditorium on 28 July 2018 with the theme “promoting tolerance and empathy to create a bullying free environment in family”.
The seminar was a professional platform for sharing experiences of parent-child relationships, exploring ideas on making this relationship healthy with trust and respect and promoting it based on empathetic understanding while celebrating individuals’ uniqueness.
Monzia Mushtaq, psychosocial counselor and a lecturer of the unit, briefly described the objectives and the unit’s activities.
The unit Head Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed, also director of the BRAC Institute of Languages, shed light on the significance of parenting for the overall development of adolescents.
The unit Adviser Professor Mehtab Khanam gave a presentation on the significance of life positions, tolerance and empathetic understanding.
Students and parents shared barriers they faced in communicating with each other and the unit members acted out two real life scenarios.
