The Department of Architecture at BRAC University hosted ARCHWEEK 2024, a vibrant event that brought together students, faculty, and architects from December 5th to December 24th, 2024. This event was packed with activities that celebrated design, culture, and collaboration.
A glimpse of ARCHWEEK 2024
Students presented their projects displaying their creativity and technical skills in the Exhibition. Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar, Vice-Chancellor, BRAC University inaugurated Exhibition at the Exhibition Hall, BRAC University on Thursday, December 5, 2024. The exhibition highlighted the design projects of the students of the undergraduate design studio.
Studio works of the students from 1st year to 5th year levels were showcased. Displays included abstract compositions of beginning years to increasingly complex architectural design projects at upper levels along with construction and interior design studios. The exhibition included award winning projects, both national and international by students, alumni and faculty members.
Design Charrette
An engaging, Design competition brought students to brainstorm and develop unique solutions to an architectural challenge.
It was a vibrant and collaborative environment where participants were encouraged to think critically, share ideas, and push the boundaries of their creativity. Through teamwork and hands-on problem-solving, students not only developed unique design concepts but also realized their communication and collaboration skills. The event served as a valuable opportunity for participants to grow both personally and collaboratively.
Winter School with Architect Yasmeen Lari
A highlight of ARCHWEEK 2024! Architect Yasmeen Lari, a globally renowned humanitarian, conducted an insightful winter school at the department of Architecture.
A week-long Winter School where architecture students built a Zero-Carbon Bamboo building, a prefabricated structure which can be used as a disaster rehab building. A multi-disciplinary session was also held with architect Lari as the main panelist.
In the morning of December 24, 2024, a concluding session of the winter school was held on the rooftop near the Octa green bamboo building. Where Yasmeen Lari distributed certificates to the participants of the winter school. Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) and various professional organizations presented souvenirs to architect Yasmeen Lari in the event.
The Department of Architecture at BRAC University echoes Yasmeen Lari’s commitment to sustainability, spearheading innovative solutions that prioritize resilience and affordability. Her guidance and wisdom offered a transformative learning experience for students, emphasizing sustainability and social responsibility in architecture.
Angan Lecture
As a part of Archweek 24 the architecture department hosted a few thought-provoking lecture session led by esteemed speakers including Architect Yasmeen Lari, Architect Wong Mun Summ and Architect Bayejid Mahbub Khondker. These lectures were a source of inspiration, sparking meaningful conversations about architecture and its role in shaping our world.
Multi-Disciplinary Session
As a part of Archweek 24 a multi-disciplinary session was held at the exhibition Gallery at December 22, 2024. This event brought together renowned community architects of Bangladesh, along with prominent representatives from BRAC Microfinance, bKash, IPDC, and heritage conservation experts.
The session served as a dynamic platform for insightful discussions, innovative ideas, and collaborative approaches to addressing contemporary challenges in architecture, finance, and cultural preservation.
It fostered meaningful exchanges among professionals from diverse fields, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in shaping a sustainable and inclusive architecture.
Award Ceremony
The Annual Award Ceremony was held on December 24, 2024, as part of Archweek 2024, at the Multipurpose Hall. During the event, several awards were distributed, including the Design Excellence Award, Rafiq Azam Travel Bursary, the Swikriti Award, and Design Charrette Award.
Moitree Cultural Program
The Archweek 24 event concluded with an excellent cultural performance mainly by the students who presented dance, recitation, songs, along with playing various musical instruments. The members of the faculty also presented a chorus song in this event.
This was a testament to the dedication and creativity of students and faculty of architecture department.
