The Department of Architecture of the School of Architecture and Design at BRAC University organized a program on its premises on 21 September, 2022 reminiscing architect Bashirul Haq. The pioneering figure for Bangladeshi architecture started teaching design at the Department of Architecture of BRAC University since its inception and has immense contributions in design studios.
Bashirul Haq led exemplary architectural practices, designing over 250 buildings in a career spanning 45 years with notable contributions in planning and education. His works are the inception of “local” knowledge that gracefully aligned with the Bengal’s geographic ambience, suggesting a deep narrative of critical regionalism through the language of brick, green, light, air, and tactility.
Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam, Professor Ferdous Azim, Zainab Faruqui Ali, PhD, Sheikh Ahsan Ullah Mojumder, architect Nahas Khalil, Iftekhar Ahmed, PhD and Mohammad Habib Reza, PhD were among the discussants, which included Haq’s colleagues, students, friends, and family who talked about his contributions in the field of pedagogy and practice.
