Dr. Mohammad Habib Reza, Associate Professor, Department of Architecture has been appointed as the Co-Director of the International Union of Architects (UIA) Work Programme – ‘Heritage and Cultural Identity’ for 2021-2023. The UIA is an international non-governmental organization recognized by UNESCO as the only architectural union operating at an international level. The UIA was founded in Switzerland in 1948 to unite architects of the world through a federation of their national organizations. Presently, UIA encompasses the key professional organizations and architects in 115 countries and territories worldwide.
As director, Dr. Reza will lead the Heritage and Cultural Identity Work Programme together with Kassim Mwamba OMAR (Kenya). The UIA Heritage & Cultural Identity Work Programme promotes methods for the conservation of architectural heritage and works to protect existing and future heritage and cultural sites from natural disasters. The Programme is involved in urban and sustainable development, rehabilitation, renovation and conservation of existing sites, striving to establish high international standards for good practice through research and expert counsel.
