Bangladesh is a frontier, emerging economy and its continued success lies in affordable, quality labour, the key driver of which is education, said newly appointed Vice Chancellor Professor Vincent Chang.
Today’s kids are different as the world is changing fast, for which everyone should adjust their way of thought, he said during a town hall meeting with faculty members in BracU’s Mohakhali campus auditorium on 11 March 2019.
BracU should come to mind whenever anyone thought of Bangladesh and to do so, the educational institution needs to develop two to three centres of excellence relevant to the country and the region and use leverages like BRAC and achievements in public health, he said.
Moreover, internationalisation of relations, quality human resources and upgraded standards are the three frontiers in which BracU needs to work on, added Vincent.
The VC said he expected all to be excellent in communication, have a can-do attitude and duly perform respective tasks while he would make the BracU’s policies as transparent as possible.
He advised teachers to focus on research, saying there would be incentives for it.
On his diversified educational backgrounds, including two PhDs and two master’s in public and business administrations, he said he was a curious person who found life “so short” in a world “so big”.
Chairpersons and heads of academic departments were present at the meeting which ended with a vote of thanks from Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Mohammad Tamim.
