Mohammad Fasiul Abedin Khan, a student in his 8th semester at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at BRAC University, has recently been selected, alongside nine others, to take part in a Huawei Seeds for the Future 2024 program in China this September.
Launched in 2008, Seeds for the Future is Huawei's flagship CSR program which selects young talents from around the world to participate in short-term trainings, global competitions and ongoing alumni activities centered around digital technology.
The overall aim is to provide them with an important platform to understand industry innovation, experience cross-cultural exchanges, and cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit.
The Bangladesh rounds were launched in March this year. It was designed to help students learn about the latest trends in digitalisation and explore how digital technologies can address common social issues.
Following interviews and CV evaluations, 50 university students from Bangladesh were chosen to participate in bootcamps and training sessions. They were divided into six teams to generate ideas on using technology to make the world a better place.
Khan’s team secured second place with an idea on using machine learning, which is a subset of artificial intelligence, to solve problems faced by fish farmers.
Afterwards, 24 students moved to the next round, when they were divided into three teams to again generate ideas. Khan’s team took the top spot with an idea on using machine learning and the internet of things to monitor water quality and conduct filtering and data analysis.
Finally, the 10 members of Khan’s team, named Lal Sobuj, were selected to move on to the regional round in China.
