“Ha Othoba Na Er Golpo” tells stories of general people and, despite playing with words, is easily understandable, said Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam of the University of Dhaka on Tuesday, 19 March 2019.
He was addressing as a key discussant the unveiling of a debut short story collection of Mohammad Mahmudul Haque, an assistant professor of the Brac University’s Department of English and Humanities who uses the pen name Rajib Mahmud.
The collection was initially launched by publisher Chironton Prokash at Amar Ekushey Boi Mela 2019. The individual stories have previously been published in Shahittya Pata, Shahitter Choto Kagoj, Webmag and been included in a few anthologies.
The unveiling at the department saw two dramas performed by students on two of the stories “Prem O Mansho” and “Giving Birth” and the screening of a short video on another, “Swapnobori”, narrated by students and directed by Sifat Bin Aziz, a friend of the author.
The department Chairperson Professor Firdous Azim and Assistant Professor Dr Abu Sayeed Mohammad Noman were also present.
“Ha Othoba Na Er Golpo” is available at the department coordination officer’s office.
The author, Mohammad Mahmudul Haque, is also a prolific translator whose translations have been selected by The Book of Dhaka: A City in Short Fiction published by Comma Press.
He was also commissioned to translate the case studies included in the book Of the Nation Born: The Bangladesh Papers (2016), published by Zubaan Books, New Delhi.
