On 7th December 2019, Dr. Sabreena Ahmed, Assistant Professor, ENH read out the English translation of Bangla short story Izzat by Selina Hossain at the literary discussion titled Women’s Voices joined together from East to West in Literature at the Six Seasons Hotel, Dhaka. The event was organised by the Higher Commission of Canada, members of The Reading Circle and Gantha (a group of writers and translators) to support United Nation’s 16 days of Activism Campaign against Gender-Based violence that takes place each year from November 25 to December 10 all around the world.
Dr. Sabreena Ahmed’s short story “Tamarind Pickle” was anthologised in Gantha Miscellany, a collection of short stories and English translations of Bangla short stories edited by Niaz Zaman and published by writers.ink. A translation by Dr. Ahmed was included in the anthology of English translations of short stories by Jahanara Naushin titled The Women Who Ate Cooking Pots. The collection of translations were edited Niaz Zaman and published by Bengal Boi. Both the books were launched at Bengal Boi, Dhanmondi, Dhaka. Professor Dr Parween Hasan, Vice-Chancellor, Central Women’s University and Luva Nahid Chowdhury, Director General, Bengal Foundation and Director - Administrative of Bengal Institute for Architecture, Landscapes and Settlements were the discussants of the books.
