ENH launches the third volume of Resonance
The Department of English and Humanities (ENH) celebrated the launch of the third volume of Resonance on Tuesday, Sep 24, 2019 at the BRACU Auditorium. Resonance is a bi-lingual, creative writing journal, published by the department and is open to contributors of all departments, schools and institutes of the university.
A beautiful classical dance set the elegant and celebratory tone of the event. The editor, Rukhsana R.Chowdhury welcomed the guests and her co-advisors, lecturers Anika Saba and Seema N.Amin joined her on the stage to introduce the student team of editors, artists, etc.
Professor Firdous Azim and the chief guest Rifat Munim, editor Dhaka Tribune unveiled the journal to thunderous applause by the audience. Later the students presented inspiring readings and recitations from the journal along with another dance performance. The show ended with a beautiful song bringing everyone to their feet in celebration of the occasion.

On 26 April 2019, Dr Nahid Afrose Kabir, presented a paper, “Identity Politics in India: The Case of Gujarat Riots”, at the Ninth International Conference on Religion & Spirituality in Society, University of Granada, Granada, Spain.
Seminar talks
On 4 September 2019, Professor Nahid Afrose Kabir gave a talk on her recent book, Muslim Americans: Debating the Notions of American and Un-American at the CREATEC Seminar at Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia. On 12 September 2019, Professor Nahid Afrose Kabir gave a talk, “Identity Politics in India: The Case of Gujarat Riots” at the Centre for Muslim States and Societies Seminar at the University of Western Australia in Perth, Australia.
Workshop
From 5th September to 18th September, Salma Khan participated in an eight day residential workshop titled "Understanding Well being of All through Self Exploration" at Bhutan Institute of Well being, organized by Bhutan Youth Development Fund at Chimithangakha, Tshaluna, Bhutan. The workshop is about universal human values (UHV) as a base or foundation for understanding human reality in the broadest of contexts; and therefore, the role of the human being in its wholeness, leading to a definite meaning of human conduct and human character. The objectives of the workshop include providing a universal basis for human values that supplements and provides direction to the current educational system in terms of.
Research Grant
Dr. Sabreena Ahmed, Assistant Professor, ENH and her team have secured a grant worth taka 2.,00,000 to conduct a study titled “Implementing Higher Order Thinking Tasks in Secondary English Classrooms” under the “2019-2020 NAEM Research Grant” under the National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM). The research team’s advisor is Dr. Manzoor Ahmed, Professor Emeritus, BIED, BRAC university and other team members are Dr. Asifa Sultana, Assistant. Professor ENH, and Sheikh Mohammad Ali, Associate Professor, Training Specialist, NAEM. Each year the Division of Research and Documentation, NAEM selects the research teams through a two tier blind reviewing process and gives this small grant for conducting studies on issues related to Bangladesh’s education system.
