On 7th August 2020, the Department of English and Humanities (ENH), organised a webinar titled "Implementing Higher Order Thinking Tasks in Secondary English Classrooms of Bangladesh" jointly presented y by Dr Sabreena Ahmed, Assistant Professor (ENH)' Dr Asifa Sultana, Associate Professor (ENH).and Sheikh Mohammad Ali, Associate Professor and Training Specialist, National Academy of Educational Management (NAEM).
In this webinar,The presenters shared the findings of a study they had conducted under the NAEM small grant 2019-2020. The qualitative study explored how higher order thinking tasks may foster critical thinking among students in Bengali medium schools’ English classrooms. Dr. Manzoor Ahmed, Professor Emeritus, BRAC Institute of Educational Development (BIED) Brac University was the advisor of this project. The participants of the webinar were mostly the teachers of secondary schools and students of ENH who aspire to be future English teachers. The webinar ended with a very interactive Qand A session where discussants highlighted various ways to help students to let go of their habit of rote learning and think critically in classrooms.
