Faculty Achievements and its Master Of Science and Applied Economics (MSAE) Program

The Department of Economics and Social Sciences wishes to share several good news with the BRACU community about its faculty achievements and its Master of Science and Applied Economics (MSAE) program. These include:
Economics Assistant Professor, Shibly Sharier, along with his PhD supervisor, Koji Kotani, has published a paper, " Natural Disaster Mitigation through Voluntary Donation in a Developing Country: The Case of Bangladesh", in the journal, Environmental Econ Policy Studies, June 2018.
Economics Lecturer, Mr. Sifat I. Ishty, and Professor Dr. M. Wasiqur Rahman Khan's paper, "Are Remittances Utilized for Investment in Bangladesh? : A Cointegration and VECM Analysis", has been published in the current issue, of theJournal of Bangladesh Studies, No.1-2, Vol 18 pp. 42-55.
Sociology Professor, Dr. Shahidur Rahman's paper, " Revisiting Empowerment: Rising Female Unemployment in the Bangladesh Garments Sector", has been published in the current issue of theJournal of Human Geography.
Anthropology Associate Professor, Dr Seuty Sabur has been invited to offer her course, ANT/SOC 350 (Gender and Society) jointly with that of Professor Elora Halim Chowdhury's course, WGS 411 (Transnational Feminisms: Contexts, Conflicts and Solidarity) of the Dept of Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies of the College of Liberal Arts at the UMass, Boston. Students from BRAC university will engage with students of UMass, Boston through Blackboard, for attending the virtual lectures and using the same reading materials.
Anthropology Associate Professor, Dr Samia Huq, has been invited as a Lead Researcher of Centre for Peace and Justice (CPJ)/BRACU project, Empowered Women and Peaceful Communities, financed by UNWOMEN to undertake research on 'The Role of Youth in Promoting Peace, Social Justice and Inclusive Society'. The project will involve two regional universities - Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) and Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU), Mymensingh.
ESS enrollment to its economics master's program - MSAE - has crossed double digit for the first time since its resumption in Fall 2017. With enrollment of 14 post graduate students , most of whom have excellent academic and professional background, in Fall 2018, ESS is steadily moving ahead to have a vibrant graduate education and research program in its fold.
On the top of winning two research grants recently, Economics Senior Lecturer, Adnan M S Fakir, has now received full funding/scholarship of the University of Western Australia for doing PhD in economics.
