Ms Maisha Mosharrat Chowdhury, a student of M.S in Biotechnology received the prestigious Chancellor’s Gold Medal on 13th Convocation of Brac University (BracU) held at Bangladesh Army Stadium on 23rd November 2019. Let’s hear out her story of BracU life, Inspiration, future plans and so on –
My admission at BracU
After completing my higher secondary education in 2010, I decided to pursue my lifelong passion of building my skills and capabilities in natural sciences. I took admission in the undergraduate program of Biotechnology in Brac University, with an ambition to equip myself with appropriate skills to explore and innovate evidence-based solutions for the next generation.
Inspiration behind outstanding CGPA
After completion of my Bachelor’s degree, I decided to continue to sharpen my skills in this field; hence, I got admitted in the Master’s program at Brac University. The vast field of opportunities which Biotechnology program has given me is worth mentioning. The mentors I have come across have inspired me to challenge my limits, and aim for academic excellence. My family, especially my parents and grandparents, have been significant source of inspiration and guidance to be assertive and pursue education for its both intrinsic and extrinsic value.
Most memorable memory at BracU
Besides attending academic courses, I proactively engaged myself to develop a knowledge- seeking behavior, as well as build my communication and leadership skills, to strengthen my contributions for the future. I have served as Executive Member of several student-led committees of my department, and as President of the Natural Sciences club in Brac University, to promote advancements of natural sciences among the next generation. These engagements have been the most memorable and fulfilling highlights of my experiences here in BracU, alongside continuous academic stimulation.
My future plan
It was because of my in-depth engagement and high performance in the Biotechnology program at BracU, I got an opportunity to visit the top national facility, Incepta Vaccine Ltd., which turned out to be life changing. It inspired me to pursue the area of vaccine research where I am currently employed. I aspire to contribute significantly to further groundbreaking research in this area, and grow my portfolio as a leading scientist in the country.
I dream of a time when Bangladesh would not have to import vaccine from other countries. I dream to be part of the solution where cutting-edge vaccine research not only saves national resources, but also helps to increase accessibility and affordability of vaccines to save lives across the nation, and in other developing countries too.
Advice to the successors
It’s important to be authentic, believe in oneself and address problems as opportunities to find solutions. If one can aspire and focus, life becomes an adventure worth living, not just for oneself, but also for the greater good.
