“IEEE DAY”, is an international event which commemorates the day in history when, for the very first time, IEEE (The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., NY, USA) members and other engineers congregated in order to share their technical ideas. This event, celebrated worldwide, is honored by all IEEE members by coming together in their local communities and holding activities that embraces IEEE Day’s theme “Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow”. This year BRAC University hosted IEEE Day on 2nd November, in UB #3, bringing its student branch members together to make this historic day memorable.
The celebrations started off with speech by Ishmam Mahmood, an ExCom member of BRACU IEEE student branch who described the history and significance of IEEE Day. This was followed by a short video presentation on IEEE activities. The event was attended by Dr. Shahidul Islam Khan, Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mohammad Zakaria Haider, System Engineer of Grameenphone Ltd. and is also the Humanitarian Technology Coordinator of IEEE Bangladesh Section. Afterwards, Professor Dr. Shahidul Islam Khan who is the Founder Chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section, presently Chair of Power and Energy Society (PES) talked about his journey with IEEE. In his speech, he expressed his desire to make IEEE BRACU Student Branch a vibrant chapter. Mr. Mohammad Zakaria Haider in his speech expressed hope to work with IEEE BRACU Student Branch and wish to coordinate with Grameenphone Ltd. Furthermore, he urged the student members to be more active and reap the benefits of it.
A rally was organized to commemorate the IEEE Day. The event ended with a “IEEE Day” cake cutting and members had light refreshments while watching a science fiction.
