Dr. Rajib Shaw, a professor at the Graduate School of Media and Governance of Keio University, has delivered a lecture on “Urban Rural Linkage for Collective Resilience” at BRAC University on 15 September, 2022. The event was hosted by the Postgraduate Programs in Disaster Management of the School of Architecture and Design.
In his lecture, Dr. Shaw defined rural-urban linkages to be that which consists of flows of goods, people, information, finance, waste, information and social relations across space. He emphasised upon the importance of collective resilience, the need for strengthening the flow of resource such as food, energy, water and human resources and how a resilient city needs resilient rural development. Lastly, he stressed on the significance of public participation and transparency in government.
A Japanese national of Indian origin, Dr. Shaw is also co-founder of a Delhi-based social entrepreneur start-up “Resilience Innovation Knowledge Academy” (RIKA) and not-for-profit entity RIKA Institute. He is also a Senior Fellow of the Institute of Global Environmental Strategies Japan, Chairperson of Japanese NGOs SEEDS Asia and CWS Japan, and a Distinguished Professor of the Institute of Disaster Management and Reconstruction of Sichuan University, China. Dr. Shaw has published more than 61 books and over 400 academic papers and book chapters.
