Moushumi Bhowmik, the famous Indian Bengali singer delivered four lectures on folk music for the course ARC 293: Music Appreciation of the Department of Architecture on 17& 24 March 2009. She is working on a research project on Bengali folk music with the India Foundation for the Arts since 2004. Her lectures reflected her research findings as well as her experience as a singer and composer.
Moushumi Bhowmik is popularly acknowledged as one of the diverse singers of modern Bangla songs. Her albums, including "Ekhono golpo lekho" and "Ami ghor bahir kori" enjoy great popularity in Bengali-speaking areas of India and in Bangladesh. She composed for several Bangla documentary and art films. Her most recent film Matir Moyna (The Clay Bird) won the Critics' Prize at Cannes in 2002 and Best Music at Kara Film Festival, Karachi in 2003.
