Doctors in neighbouring countries patiently hear out patients, for which Bangladeshis tend to go across the border for treatment, said a healthcare market research and accessing firm’s top official on Saturday (12 October 2019).
Better behaviour will enable service quality of doctors in Bangladesh to graduate, added Dr Abu Jamil Faisel, chairman of Health21, during the launching of an online course titled “Effective Behavioral Communication for Doctor Patient Relationship”.
Jointly developed by the Brac Institute of Languages (BIL) and Health21, the course was launched by Md Ashadul Islam, secretary to Health Services Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, at Brac University’s Mohakhali campus auditorium.
Islam lamented that three aspects of public healthcare delivery systems were eroding patient confidence: dirty premises, absence of doctors and rude behaviour.
Dr Faisel said a Facebook survey revealed doctors’ interest in availing such a course and effective outcomes from it requires proper implementation in everyday practices of health professionals.
A mentality to deliver services is more important than having top degrees for professions involving sectors such as education and healthcare, said Associate Vice President for Student Life, Senior Director of BracU Counseling Unit and Director of the BIL Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed.
She said the BIL has long been involved in creating education and educators’ courses such as the digital content and teacher training manual of primary education directorate.
Dr Muzharul Mannan, CEO of Health21, presented the welcome notes; Dr Tamanna Sultana, consultant of Health21, gave a presentation on the course and a question and answer session was also held.
