Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, founder of Brac University, passed away on 20th December, 2019. We mourn his loss and offer our deepest condolences to his family. His achievements are outstanding and will continue to make an impact on the lives of many.
As a visionary, Sir Abed founded Brac University as an institution for a new generation of students who think critically and who are empowered by an outstanding educational system. Though, Brac University has been incepted only a little over a decade ago, it already is one of the most reputed educational institutions in Bangladesh. The motto “Inspiring Excellence” has been the driving power of the University with the mission to produce competitive students who can keep up with their peers on an international level.
Bangladesh’s economy was ruined in 1972 after the war and Sir Abed identified the needs of the poor. Particularly, the refugees returning from India after seeking shelter during the war inspired him to found BRAC. Enabling them to develop their own capacity to better manage their lives was his main objective. The same can be said about the later founded Brac University. Here, students are enabled to become independent human beings to make a positive impact to society. They will carry out the mission of Sir Abed and show compassion, make a difference and help the less fortunate.
Each member of Brac University is grateful for Sir Abed’s work and his achievements. His legacy will live on.
