Farzana Munshi, Ph.D., Professor of Economics, Department of Economics and Social Science, BRAC University, published a paper titled "Does Access to Credit Reduce Child Labor: New Evidence from Bangladesh" with co-authors Arefin Kamal and David Fielding, as part of the University of Manchester's Global Development Institute Working Paper Series.
The findings of this research are very important in terms of policy intervention to reduce child labor in Bangladesh. They used two rounds of BIHS data to create a panel of 4624 children and used a multinomial probit model in their analysis and found that, in contrast to previous findings, longer and more consistent access to and use of microcredit reduce households’ use of child labour in Bangladesh.
