Professor Syed A. Mamun, PhD, FCMA from the Department of Economics and Social Sciences (ESS), BRAC University was invited as the keynote speaker in a CPD program of Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) a statutory professional accounting body under ministry of commerce, GOB, organized by its Chattogram Branch on 27th September 2024. Dr. Mamun presented the paper titled “Corporate Governance and Stability of Financial Markets: reform agenda” highlighting about how do weaknesses of internal and external corporate governance mechanisms of banks adversely affect the efficiency of financial markets of Bangladesh, and what are the areas can be under reform initiatives to strengthening the bank governance, building confidence of different stakeholders and make the financial markets sustainable.
Professor Dr. M. Sadiqul Islam FCMA, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Social Islami Bank PLC was present as the Session Chairman of the program. Around 100 corporate professionals, senior bankers and academics present on the program and participated in the interactive discussion with their insights and observations about the future reforms of corporate governance mechanisms to build trustworthy banking sector and sustainable financial markets.
