Mr. Md. Saimum Reza Talukder, Senior Lecturer in the School of Law, has been awarded an APrIGF 2024 Fellowship to participate in the Asia Pacific Regional IGF (APrIGF) 2024, which is scheduled to take place in Taipei, Taiwan, from August 21 to August 23. This year, 32 individuals from academia, civil society, government and inter-government officials, private actors, students, and tech experts have been awarded Fellowships out of a total of 586 applications (215 female and 371 male). The Internet Society (ISOC), a nonprofit advocacy organization of professionals that collaborates with other technical professional organizations to establish standards for the Internet, will arrange a four-week self-paced online course for the fellows. After the completion of the course, the APrIGF fellows will participate actively in the APrIGF.
The United Nations convened the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in 2003 and 2005, resulting into the establishment of Internet Governance Forum (IGF). The UN plays a crucial role in convening the IGF as a platform for multistakeholder dialogue on public policy issues related to Internet governance. The IGF brings together a diverse array of stakeholders, including governments, private sector, civil society, technical community, and academia, to engage in a fair and impartial discourse on various topics. The regional IGFs, e.g., African IGF, Arab IGF, Asia Pacific IGF, Caribbean IGF, Central African IGF, Euro IGF, are part of the global IGF conducted at the regional level.
