On 19 August 2020, the School of Law with the UNHCR hosted a webinar “World Humanitarian Day: Honouring Women Humanitarian Workers”. The webinar was a part of the activities of the Brac University Law School Student Volunteer Team, created with the UNHCR to raise awareness and empathy on the issue of refugee rights.
Speakers represented three different INGO’s working in Coxs’ Bazaar - UNHCR, UNWFP, Danish Refugee Council, TDH LUSANNE. Three of the speakers are BRACU alumni of which two are from the School of Law. They spoke to an audience of 42, of their experience as humanitarian workers, the challenges they face and how they overcome them. They raised awareness of women’s rights and the need for more women in humanitarian efforts. The programme was moderated by Anusheh Ali, Lecturer School of Law and coordinated by Dr. Saira R Khan from the School of Law and Ms. Ayesha Khanom from the UNHCR.
