On 23 September 2020, the School of Law, Brac University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees for the implementation of a 14-day course on Refugee Law. The course was open to the senior students who had completed Criminal Law, International Law and Human Rights. Twenty five students signed up for the course, many of whom are either SoL mooters or have taken part in other law competitions and research activities, based on human rights and humanitarian law. This course will greatly enhance the participating students' knowledge and assist them in their future endeavours and professional lives as social engineers. The MoU was signed on behalf of the School of Law by the Dean, Professor K. Shamsuddin Mahmood and also by Mr. Jonathan Cartmell, as VP of International Affairs. The course will be coordinated by Dr. Saira Rahman Khan from the School of Law and run by members of the UNHCR, including Saleh Mohammad Shafi, an alumnus of the Law School. It is to be noted here that in April 2020, the UNHCR initiated a programme to create and educate student groups in various universities to raise awareness of the Rohingya refugee rights. The School of Law is also engaged in this activity.
