IEEE Brac University Computer Society in collaboration with Cloud Computing Research Group of CSE Department of Brac University has organized its first seminar titled "A Framework For Assessing Credibility In Online Social Networks" by Mohammad Mehedi Hassan, PhD, SMIEEE, who is an Associate Professor of Information Systems Department in the College of Computer and Information Sciences (CCIS), King Saud University (KSU), Saudi Arabia. Dr. Mehedi has an excellent research background in the field of Cloud Computing, Edge Computing and Internet of Things (IoT). He has published more than 150 ISI indexed journal papers and received best researcher award from KSU multiple times. And his number of Google citations are over 3500.
Nowadays we have a big threat due to the unauthorized usage of the social network in terms of fake account, Sybil attack etc. and thus hampering the image and credibility of the important people, society and a country at a large scale. Thus the seminar focus on the design and development of an automated information credibility assessment mechanism for online social networks (OSNs), especially in the context of Twitter. In particular, the main goal is to find an automated mechanism of assigning a credibility score to any tweet posted by a user relating to a given topic in the Twitter social network.
The event started at 3:00 PM with an introductory speech from Professor Dr. M. A. Mottalib, Chairperson of CSE Department and from the IEEE Brac University Student Branch Counsellor Prof. Dr. A. K. M. Abdul Malek Azad. Approximately 30 students and faculty members of CSE Department attended the seminar. The event was very helpful for the students since it focused on a mechanism and implementation of a framework of this sort. The seminar wrapped up at 5pm with a group photo, refreshments and by handing over a token of appreciation to the speaker by Professor Dr. M. A. Mottalib, Chairperson of the CSE Department and Dr. Md. Motaharul Islam, Associate Professor and Adviser of IEEE Computer Society BracU & Coordinator of Cloud Computing Research Group. The seminar was a huge milestone for the IEEE Brac University Computer Society as it marked the beginning of their future events and a fruitful technical journey.
