A sports competition titled “RS Sports Events” for the Fall 2022 Residential Semester was held at the Savar residential campus of BRAC University recently.
There were 1,281 students in this Residential Semester, the biggest batch till date. Moreover, a house system was adopted for the first time through which the students were divided into 5 houses, namely Dhrubotara, Chayaneer, Moyourponkhi, Meghdoot and Dhanshiri, thus providing a focus for group loyalty and enabling creating legacies for future Residential Semester batches.
There were 10 types of sporting and game events -- cricket, football, badminton, carom, chess, sprint, table tennis, musical chairs, “haribhanga” (breaking jars with sticks blindfolded) and treasure hunt (using clues to find something hidden on the campus). As each person was able to participate in multiple events, the contests ended up having a total of 1,699 male and female participants.
A total of 160 students won awards in various categories. Eight students were presented trophies for their extraordinary individual performances. All in all, Dhrubotara was adjudged the champion house with its members winning five gold, four silver and one bronze medals.
The prize-giving ceremony was held on 19 December, 2022, attended by Dr David Dowland, Registrar, Syed M Hashemi, PhD, Professor of the School of General Education; Mir Sadik Faisal, Campus Superintendent, Residential Semester, BRAC University, Savar; Md Morshedul Haque, Assistant Campus Superintendent, and other faculty members and officials.
