Architecture students of BRAC University attending residential semester in Fall 2018 completed an installation project titled “উৎসবমুখর হেমন্ত” (‘Celebrating Hemanta’). The installation was made in real scale, with locally available traditional elements such as bamboo, jute, fabric, ropes, etc. This project was aimed at building architectonic installations that would be in tune with the sky, light, colors, clouds, stars, music and mood of the season.
Students worked in groups of 4 and installed their projects in suitable locations of the residential campus. This hands-on learning by designing and building a project gave them insight on the strengths and behavior of materials. Freshmen year studio teachers Prof. Zainab Faruqui Ali, Shams Monsoor Ghani, Samiur Rahman Bhuiyan and Emmat Ara Khanam supervised the project. Prof. K. Shabbir Ahmed, Department of Architecture, BUET was the external juror of the project jury. A successful part of this endeavor was that the students of other departments helped the architecture students in building this project, result of which was the enhancement of their interpersonal skills, team work, friendship and leadership all of which are key aspects of the RS experience.
