A three-day “Marvel The Club Fair” opened at BRAC University’s Mohakhali campus in the capital on 1 July 2018, aiming to inform freshmen of the university’s 27 student-based organisations they could join to cultivate leadership skills and teamwork.
Inaugurating the event, Professor Md Abdul Mottalib, chairperson of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and a freedom fighter, commended the role clubs play in nurturing young minds.
A moment of silence was observed paying homage to freedom fighters of the 1971 Liberation War.
Organised every semester by the Office of Co-curricular Activities, this time in association with BRAC University Film Club and sponsored by app-based transportation service provider MUV Asia, the club fair contains stalls for clubs adorned with cutouts of characters from Marvel comics.
Activities scheduled during the event include screening of this year’s superhero film Black Panther and “Merciless Mayhem”, a documentary on 1971 by Fuad (Shahensha) Chowdhury, and a discussion featuring artists Joya Ahsan and Chanchal Chowdhury.
Students are to engage in drama, dance and musical performances along with guest band Mechanix and a food festival has been planned on the last day.
