“You know I have two grandchildren just like your kids here.”
The words might seem out of touch being the first things said to an applicant in a job interview but this resemblance drawn by late Professor AA Ziauddin Ahmed was exactly what made a teacher instantly set her mind into joining BRAC University.
Such was the appeal of the humble and down to earth physicist who made time to inquire about the wellbeing of peers’ family members and share his homemade “bhortas”, which are generally a mash of cooked foodstuff, mixed with raw onions and spices.
Interactions and memories like these were shared during a meeting paying homage to the former chairperson of the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization who passed away on 18 January 2018.
The Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences organised the event on Thursday, 17 December 2019, at Building 2 of BRACU’s Mohakhali campus.
Faculty members, including Professor AFM Yusuf Haider and Professor Firdous Azim along with students and staff all recalled with gratitude Professor Ziauddin’s contributions not only for the advancement of the department but also of BRACU.
