Dr. Huraera Jabeen, Associate Professor of the Department of Architecture was invited by the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK to attend a symposium Frontiers of Development: The Urban Opportunity for Building a Resilient Future that took place at the Heriot-Watt Campus in Putrajaya, Malaysia from 23 -26 July 2019. She was a speaker of the session Building resilient urban communities discussing gender aspects of climate change adaptation with particular focus on informal settlements in Bangladeshi cities.
At the end of the symposium participants had the opportunity to apply for seed funding awards of up to £20,000 to help build on collaborative partnerships established at the event. Dr. Jabeen applied for funding with three teams and two of the applications were successful. She will be a Co-PI in the research project - Mobilising Women: Navigating Urban Infrastructures and Resilience in Dhaka, Bangladesh - in collaboration with the University of Sheffield, UK. The other research project - Pathways to Sustainability in Postindustrial Cities of the Global South - will be led by the Durham University, UK. Dr Jabeen will be a collaborator along with faculty members from Khulna University, Bangladesh; University of Malawi, Malawi; University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and the University of Sheffield, UK.
