Department of Architecture held three seminars on Online Studio Teaching with Harvard University Graduate School of Design on 5 June 2020, Department of Architecture, CEPT University, India on 12 June 2020, and Department of Architecture, National University of Singapore on 15 June 2020.
Prof. Zainab Faruqui Ali, Chairperson, Department of Architecture, BracU moderated the sessions. Prof. Fuad H. Mallick, Dean, SoAD, and faculty members Mohammad Faruk, Mahmudun Nobi, Samiur Rahman Bhuiyan, S M Kaikobad, Shayeeka Alam, Zillur Rahman and S Y Andalib participated in the discussions related to the various factors influencing the mode, problems, and successes of teaching architectural studios online.
Hanif Kara, Professor in Practice, Harvard Graduate School of Design stressed that the backstage orchestration is the main important aspect that makes online studio teaching successful. Chirayu Bhatt (Provost, Academics) CEPT University, and Anjali Kadam and Ishaq Fahim from the Department of Architecture’s Teaching and Learning Center were instrumental in changing the architectural studio teaching from face-to-face to virtual system in only a few of weeks’ time by adopting a robust online platform. Wong Mun Summ, Professor in Practice, Department of Architecture, National University of Singapore mentioned that the students of these times are creative, and they too contribute to solving the problems of studio learning by coming up with innovative ideas.
