Brac University students and alumni have achieved outstanding success in Diana Award 2021. Nineteen changemakers from Bangladesh have been honoured at 2021 Diana Awards. These nineteen changemakers include two alumni and two current students from Brac University. This award is established in the memory of Late Princess Diana. Diana Award is one of the highest accolades a young person can achieve for being a changemaker. The Diana Award recognizes exceptional young people who are selflessly creating and sustaining positive changes. Here are the award recipients from Brac University –
Murshidul Alam Bhuiyan
Murshidul Alam Bhuiyan is a first semester BBA student studying at Brac University. In 2016, Murshidul with some of his school friends created “Team Bertho”, a platform delegated to the course of education through spreading human wisdom. “Team Bertho” aims to document the understanding of life through people’s learning and pass them on as innovative, creative & effective solutions for everyone to live their best life. Under Murshidul’s leadership, “Team Bertho” fostered an inclusive community where the life stories and memoranda from citizens from all around the world has been documented and presented. Murshidul’s hope for ‘Team Bertho’ is to uplift and inspire all those who come across these epistles of human wisdom.
Gulnahar Mahbub Monika
Gulnahar Mahbub Monika is a Brac University alumnus who has dedicated herself to increasing opportunities for women in basketball, providing a platform for women to be empowered through sports. Helping women and girls to build sisterhood, reduce stress and empower young people to be leaders, Monika organizes events and tournaments providing access to sports for women and girls of all ages. Through these initiatives, she was able to inspire and motivate more young girls to take sports as a career. Moreover, she created opportunities for women and girls to take part in the international empowerment events. Monika hopes to create a women-only national league in the future, and is currently pioneering Bangladesh’s first female-only basketball oriented organization. An accomplished national-level basketball player herself, Monika is an inspiring role model for the young girls she works with.
Afruza Tanzi
Afruza Tanzi is a final year student from Biotechnology Program, Mathemetics and Natural Sciences Department of Brac University. She has been awarded this Prestigious Diana Award 2021 for her social enterprise named Protibha.
Afruza is committed to make women financially capable and confident by shaping gender neutral perceptions regarding economic opportunities in rural areas. She spent countless hours designing and conducting her campaigns to strengthen financially marginalized women through education, wellness and position in the marketplace. Her action is a holistic approach where firstly, it establishes a positive mindset about female employment in the communities by arranging awareness campaigns. Secondly, starts building capacity through providing free crafting training to turn potential housewives into artisans. Lastly, her enterprise acts as a bridge between the urban market and rural production to commercialize handcrafted items. This bridge ensures sustainable earning opportunities for the trained women. Till date she has has provided financial literacy to 700+ villagers, arranged free Arts and Crafts training for 92 women and commercialized 1000+ artisan-made products since 2018.
Sagar Mazumder
Sagar Mazumder is a Brac University alumnus and also the COO of the edutech startup ‘Nerdiz’, which aims to provide education through virtual reality (VR) technology. Nerdiz is the first ever VR edutech startup of Bangladesh that started its journey in the year 2017 when Sagar was an undergrad student of BRAC University. Sagar graduated from BRAC University with high academic honours and is also a Certified Supply Chain Analyst under ISCEA.
