The School of Law, BRAC University has signed an agreement with the Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) to conduct a study titled ‘Cyber security, Social Media and Information Regulation: Unpacking Sub-Regional Trend in South Asia’. With the financial support and cooperation from KAS, this study will be conducted simultaneously in Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka from January to December 2022. The aim of this study is to publish a research report that proposes to engage with legislative and policy developments in these three South Asian jurisdictions with a view to identifying and demarcating the scope and limits of what qualifies as a ‘cybersecurity’ issue as per law and policy applicable in said jurisdictions.
KAS is a political foundation in Germany, committed to achieving and maintaining peace, freedom, and justice through political education. It has 16 regional offices that offer a wide variety of civic education conferences and events having 200 projects in more than 120 countries at present. The Centre for Communication Governance at National Law University Delhi and the LIRNE Asia will conduct the study in India and Sri Lanka respectively. Mr. Md. Saimum Reza Talukder, Senior Lecturer of the School of Law will lead this research in Bangladesh with generous academic guidance from Mr. K. Shamsuddin Mahmood, Professor and Dean, School of Law.
