BRAC University organized a memorial event “Remembering Sir Fazle Hasan Abed KCMG & His Vision on Education” on Saturday 21 May, 2022 at BRAC Center inn auditorium. The event was also broadcasted live on the official Facebook page of BRAC University.
Distinguished speakers attended the event and discussed Sir Fazle’s vision on education. The speakers were - Dr. Ahmed Mushtaque Raza Chowdhury, Member, Board of Trustees, BRAC University and Adviser, James P Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University, Malabika Sarker, PhD., Associate Dean and Director of Centre of Excellence on for Science of Implementation and Scale-Up, James P Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University, Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam, PhD., Professor of English and Humanities at University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), Member, CPD Board of Trustees and Dr. Riaz Khan, Former Project Head and Member, Governing Body and Academic Council, BRAC University. Nobonita Chowdhury, Director, Preventing Violence Against Women Initiative and Gender Justice & Diversity (GJD), BRAC moderated the event. Miftah Zaman, renowned artist also performed a Rabendra Sangeet “Tumi Robe Nirobe” in the event.
According to the speakers, Sir Abed realized that development cannot happen without quality education. So he put enormous emphasis on education. He believed that a University can contribute to drive qualitative change in the society, along with creating leaders. From that concept, he set up BRAC University, said the speakers.
The speaker also mentioned that Sir Abed had a very high expectation from BRAC University, as it was his cherished dream. One of his visions was to get BRAC University engaged in relevant research and innovation that create impacts in our society. As part of this motto, BRAC University has established several institutes for research and development studies to contribute to national development.
