BRAC Business School of BRAC University has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with DBL Group at BRAC University campus, Mohakhali, Dhaka on 25 May, 2022 for launching a leadership training program targeting the female employees of the company. BRAC University will conduct the leadership training program with the view to enhance the scopes for professional development and leadership skills of DBL Group’s female executives. DBL Group has around 40% females’ employees which accounts to around 20,000 women. This leadership training program will initially train 100 female executives and move further to train the rest of the employees.
The initiative was developed under the leadership of Professor Sang Hoon Lee, Dean of BRAC Business School, and Mr. Zahid Ullah, Chief Sustainability Officer, DBL Group and they were key witness to the MoU signing. M. A. Rahim, Vice Chairman of DBLGroup, and Professor Vincent Chang, Vice Chancellor of BRAC University, signed the contract on behalf of their respective institutions.
In his speech, M. A. Rahim shared the story behind BRAC University being chosen for this particular agenda. He stated that BRAC University was chosen for its quality of excellence, diligence and outstanding managerial skills. He believes this bridging with BRAC University will greatly benefit their agenda in women empowerment as well.
Professor Vincent Chang emphasized the importance of engaging with stakeholders and addressing the gender equality issue. He envisions this initiative as a “win-win” situation -- a win for the university and a win for the industry. The program will not only develop female employees of DBL Group but will also gather enough data for BRAC University to focus on research related to women empowerment. Further local case studies can be developed in light of that database.
Fulbright Specialist, Dr. Sharon Hart was also present during this ceremony and she appreciates the initiative for developing women leaders in DBL Group. She also shares that she is guiding BRAC Business School is establishing Women Empowerment Center under BRAC University.
