Hasna Khanom, Senior Lecturer at the BRAC Institute of Languages, conducted a session on “Planning Lessons and Using Resources for Language Teaching” at the National Symposium on ‘Pathways to Teaching English: Innovative Pedagogies and Techniques in the 21st Century’ at NAEM Auditorium on 15 October 2022.
Some 150 teachers of English from government and non-government schools, madrasahs, and universities, and students from MA in TESOL and MA in ELT programs from renowned universities of the country participated in this day-long symposium. Professor Md. Nizamul Karim, Director general, NAEM was the Chief Guest at the event while Tahsina Akter, Director, training, NAEM, and Prabir Kumar Bhattcharjee, Director, Training Wing, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) were the guests of honour at the national symposium.
In her session, Ms Hasna Khanom focused on the significance, features, and process of developing a lesson plan and using a number of easily accessible and engaging teaching resources to bring in innovation in English language classrooms at any level.
10 teacher trainers and educators from various public and private universities of the country spoke at the symposium aiming at exploring the essential knowledge and pedagogy of the teachers by exposing them to a range of English language teaching techniques and strategies.
The keynote speaker for the event, Lawrence N. Berlin, Professor Emeritus, Northeastern Illinois University, and English Language Specialist for the U.S. Embassy Dhaka and NAEM conducted his session on ‘A Participatory Approach for a Socio-Critical Age: Responsive and Innovative English Language Teaching in the 21st Century’.
