The RS has many other unique features. One of them is the Social Learning Lab (SLL), which tasks all the students to play a particular role for a day and take over the responsibility of the whole campus. Students clean the dormitories and the campus, they cook, serve food to their peers, wash clothes, they guard the campus as security guards, they work as gardeners etc. Through this SLL program, students learn to value each and every job and also realize that no job is small or insignificant. They learn to respect others in society, practically go through the hardships and learn to respect people who are catering to their needs.
The courses which students have to undertake have interesting aspects too. For instance, as a part of the Emergence of Bangladesh course, students go on a visit to the Liberation War Museum. The museum's exhibits include photographs, documents, artifacts and personal stories from the Liberation War. The exhibits are organized chronologically and cover the period from the era prior to the 1947 Partition of India to the end of the Liberation War. Here students literally take “a walk through history” and pay homage to the sacrifices made by freedom fighters for Bangladesh to finally achieve independence.
Apart from their regular academic activities, students take part in various extracurricular activities during their stay for the RS. A total of 36 activities are offered from which students can choose any one to discover and sharpen their hidden talents. There are activities such as learning to play the guitar, martial arts, different types of dance, graphic and web design, painting, languages, basics of robotics and many more.
As a part of the RS, students can participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award program and civic engagement programs which help develop leadership and social skills. The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a global non-formal education framework that challenges young people (aged 14 - 24) to discover their potential and find their purpose, passion and place in the world. It is a compact self-development programme where individuals learn new skills, increase fitness levels through physical recreational activities, volunteer in community services and take part in an adventurous journey. As for the civic engagement programs, there have been run on quite a few modalities. The most recent one was on BRAC University students working with schoolchildren from the greater Savar community. The engagement sought to inculcate a range of competencies in the schoolchildren, ranging from literacy, ICT and other communication skills to sports, leisure and various kinds of social and personal awareness.
Moreover, the RS hosts a sports competition for every batch under which students living in its 5 houses, namely Dhrubotara, Chayaneer, Moyourponkhi, Meghdoot and Dhanshiri, compete against each other. Students participate in various games like football, cricket, badminton, chess and many others to earn gold, fame and a championship title for their respective houses.
RS also encourages students to immerse themselves in the local culture and customs, thanks to Bangladesh being a culturally rich and diverse country. Cultural programs are an integral part of the RS, all arranged by students on their own. From hosting to singing and dancing, everything is done by students.
Overall, RS offers a range of programs, activities and opportunities that can help students grow personally, academically and professionally, and can be a life-changing experience.
