Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury is a trained architect, educator, and advocate for biomimicry in architecture. Currently a Lecturer in the Department of Architecture at BRAC University, Mahmudul's expertise lies at the intersection of Architecture, Climate-sensitive urban design, and Biomimicry. With a keen interest in biomimicry in architecture and climate-sensitive urban design, Mahmudul has diverse experiences including working as an Architect at Ar. Emran Hossain and Associates, contributing to 50 years master plans and urban design recommendations for BARD, and conducting research as a Master’s Intern at CNRS in Toulouse, where he analyzed climate data of the city of Toulouse through visual mapping.
Mahmudul's journey includes impactful roles at Bengal Institute, where he spearheaded multiple architectural exhibitions and urban design projects across Bangladesh from 2015 to 2017. Additionally, his experience as a trainee at JICA in Kyoto in 2019 provided invaluable insights into enhancing local government administrations and public services through participatory development.
Mahmudul's academic background includes a Master's degree in Urban Sustainability and Climate from prestigious institutions in the UK, Finland, and Spain, complemented by a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from BRAC University.
Recognized for his academic achievements, Mahmudul received the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree Scholarship in 2018 and a nomination for the Noman’s Excellency Award in 2014. He received an Honourable Mention in the FENN Young Designers Award in 2012.
