The Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MNS) in collaboration with Bangladesh Mathematical Society (BMS) organized the Regional Round (Dhaka North Region) of the 8th National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad- 2016 on November 12, 2016 at the BRAC University campus in the city. Students of 29 public and private universities and colleges from Dhaka North Region took part in this Olympiad where BRAC University students by their extraordinary performance have secured most of the top-level positions. A total of 5 students, out of the 10 best ones, were selected from BRAC University in this regional round. This was a regional round for selecting the most talented and brightest undergraduate students who would be taking part in the final round of the 8th National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad- 2016.
From this Regional Round, the 10 best performers were selected as the regional champions. A total of 60 students would be selected for competing in the final round. Students who got selected from BRAC University in this regional round are Sadat Husain (1st) from Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department, Sumaya Habib (2nd) from Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department, Waqqas Iqbal (3rd) from CSE Department of BRACU. The remaining two students who jointly secured the 9th position are Ishtiaq Ahmad Zim from Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department and Maesha Armeen from Economics and Social Sciences (ESS) Department.
Bangladesh Mathematical Society (BMS) has been holding Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad every year since 2009. AF Mujibur Rahman Foundation (a charity devoted to knowledge and education) is supporting BMS in holding the 8th National Undergraduate Mathematic Olympiad 2016.
