Nowrin Hossain is a passionate and enthusiastic lecturer who has joined Microbiology Program at the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, BRAC University. With a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology from the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, BRAC University, and a Master's degree in Microbiology from Department of Microbiology, Jagannath University, she developed a profound interest in the fascinating world of microorganisms. Her thesis focused on “Drinking Water Safety” and delved into the assessment of the prevalence and persistence of diarrheagenic Escherichia coli strains and pathogenic Salmonella spp., in tap and drinking water samples. This research unveiled significant public health hazards in a megacity, Dhaka.
Prior to joining as a Lecturer, she has experience of working as a Teaching Assistant in Microbiology Laboratory as well as a Part Time Lecturer in Microbiology Program at BRAC University. Along with this, she was involved as a Research Assistant at Osaka University for a project titled “Genomic characterization of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae from Dhaka food markets unveiled the spread of high-risk antimicrobial resistant clones and plasmids co-carrying blaNDM and mcr1.1”
She holds an interest in Environmental Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics. She believes that practical knowledge, critical thinking, and a deep appreciation for microorganisms are essential for success in this field. Therefore, she is excited to bring her real-world experience and passion for microbiology to the classroom, where she will encourage students to explore this intricate and vital realm of science.
