BS in Biotechnology program (136 credits) started in Summer 2010. Biotechnology involves applications of scientific and engineering principles for processing of materials (organic and inorganic) using biological systems to provide goods & services. Biotechnology is a multi-disciplinary science involving use of different disciplines like biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, chemical and bio-chemical engineering.
Rapid advances in the field of biotechnology and their impacts on the socio-economic development of a country calls for development of trained manpower in this discipline. The undergraduate program will provide students with fundamental knowledge, theoretical and practical skills in biotechnology with good foundation in related physical and biological sciences. A student is offered the option of doing double-major with biotechnology as the first major. One can also take biotechnology as a minor.
