Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to recognize our emotions, understand what they're telling us, and realize how our emotions affect people around us and using this emotional information to guide our thinking and behavior. Emotional intelligence also involves our perception about others, when we understand how someone feels; this allows us to manage relationships more effectively. Studies have shown that people with high EI have greater mental health, exemplary job performance, and more potent leadership skills. There are some opportunities to increase this skill by nurturing some techniques.
