As a part of the visit program in different schools and colleges, a presentation session on BRAC University was organized for the A level students of European Standard School on February 25, 2004. The BU team headed by Professor Fuad H. Mallick, Chairperson, Architecture Department and Dr. Shadeen Malik, Director, School of Law actively interacted with the students and presented the programs offered by BU. The other members of the team also participated in answering the student's queries regarding scholarship, credit transfer etc. Professor Nurul Islam Principal, European Standard School briefed the students about different activities of BRAC and BRAC University. The other members of the BU team were Ms. Sadia Hamid Qazi, Lecturer CSE, Mr. Ezaz Ahmed, Lecturer, MGB, Ms. Shuchi Karim, Lecturer English and Ms. Shamsun Nahar Rahman, Student Affairs Officer.

Professor Firdous Azim, Chairperson, Department of English and Humanities (ENH), attended a conference on "Cultural Studies in Asia: New Pedagogic Possibilities" held in Bangalore, India, from the 23rd to the 25th of February 23 to 25, 2004. The conference was a part of the network of Inter-Asian Cultural Studies and was hosted by the Centre of Social and Cultural Studies (CSCS) based in Bangalore. Professor Firdous Azim chaired a panel discussion on "Cultural Hegemonies: The Asian Experience".

Angan Student Lecture 1: 'Frank Lloyd Wright' was held in the Departement of Architecture on February 23, 2004. Dr. Zainab F. Ali conducted the lecture. Nesfun Nahar, Iftekhar Ahmed and Shams M. Ghani, Lecturers of the department participated in the discussions on the work of one of the masters of modern architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright. Students and teachers of the department of architecture attended the event.
Angan Poster Series 1: 'Curzon Hall' was inaugurated on February 19, 2004, on the 100th anniversary of the Curzon Hall, Dhaka. Md. Nafisur Rahman [Junior 1] and Raihan Alamgir Lukan [Sophomore 2] prepared the poster. This is the first one in a series of posters to be published by the students of the department of architecture on buildings and sites of Bangladesh of architectural importance. Each publication is followed by a discussion on the building/site participated by the teachers and students of the department.

A daylong workshop on "Home Fortification of Weaning Food with Sprinkles: A New Strategy to Control Iron Deficiency Anemia among Infants and Young Children" was held at BRAC Centre on February 11, 2004. It was jointly organized by BRAC and the Institute of Public Health Nutrition (IPHN). The workshop reviewed the interventions for controlling iron deficiency anemia among children, shared experiences of the on-going sprinkles project and formulated a strategy of home fortification to improve iron and other micronutrient contents of weaning foods in Bangladesh. Mr. F. H. Abed, Chairperson of BRAC and President, Governing Board, BU chaired the first session of the workshop. Special guests included Professor Mizanur Rahman, Director General of Health Services, Dr. Salina Ahsan, Joint Secretary of the World Health Organization and Public Health, and Dr. Stanley Zlotkin, Head of the Department of GI/Nutrition at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. The workshop was sponsored by The Micronutrient Initiative Bangladesh and the Hospital for Sick Children. Keynote speaker Professor Stanley Zlotkin gave an exhaustive and informative presentation on the new sprinkles strategy, which has been endorsed by Professor Mizanur Rahman, Director General of Health Services. Mr. F H Abed recommended that public communication of the strategy and social mobilization take place as fast as possible. He also suggested that Professor Zlotkin develop a similar home-based iron deficiency remedy for women of reproductive age.

The Orientation Program for new students of Spring Semester, 2004 was held in BRAC Centre Inn Auditorium on February 7, 2004. Professor J R Choudhury VC, BU welcomed the students and introduced BRAC and BU to the students and the parents attending the session. The program included a presentation on BU Environment, Culture and Facilities by The Registrar, BU and a presentation on the BU Academic Rules & Regulations conducted by Professor Abdur Rab, Chairperson Department of MGB. The Chairpersons of the respective Departments later introduced the students to the concerned Departments and the Course Curriculum. The session also included a get-together of the students, parents, faculty members and administrative staff.

Dr Nazrul Islam joined the Department of MGB Dept. as Associate Professor on February 1, 2004. Dr. Islam did his MBA and Ph.D. from AIT, Bangkok and was the Head of the Department of Business Administration in Khulna University before joining BU.
Ms. Bipasha Binte Haque joined English Department as Lecturer on February7, 2004. She did her Masters in English Literature from Dhaka University and obtained a second Masters in English Language Studies and Methods from University of Warwick, UK.
