The student of ARC 343 : Technology and Construction visited House Building Research Institute (HBRI) in Mirpur on 25 June 2014 to explore the innovative use and techniques of local material like mud, bamboo, wood and ferrocement. HBRI, a government research intuition, conducts research and consulting projects countrywide. The students have experienced demonstration of precast column and ferrocement roofing, Earth-bag construction (invented by Ar. Nader Khalili), Floating house, Cavity wall, Wattle and Daub construction with bamboo and mortar, Rammed earth construction etc. and rainwater harvesting techniques in those projects. Course teacher Shajjad Hossain and Nandini Awal along with Ar. Nafis, principal architect of HBRI, facilitated the excursion to that institution.
