Mr. Ashikur Rahman, Research Associate of BIGD attended the fourth round of Speakers’ Forum titled Faith and Education: Contestations around the Madrasa in Bangladesh, held on March 12, 2016 organised by Economics and Social Science Department (ESS) of BRAC University, in collaboration with the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs of the George Town University and World Faiths Development Dialogue. The fourth Speakers’ Forum focused on madrasa education, the history of these institutions in South Asia and their contemporary role as education providers in Bangladesh. Through the course of the day, the forum tried to gain some critical insights on madrasas’ contribution to education provision and broader social impacts, as well as issues of social alienation of madrasa students and the challenges of integration and inclusive citizenship.
