Mr. Kazi Abu Bakar Siddique, Lecturer at BRAC Institute of Languages (BIL), conducted two faculty workshops on Writing Well: the Myths and the Reality to help understand the correlation between the existing writing practices, both in academic and non-academic spectrum, and the way they are assessed. Fifteen faculty members from BIL participated in the workshops.
Held in the first two weeks of December 2017, these interactive workshops shed light on some critical aspects regarding teaching writing and initiated discussions on what needs to be prioritized to improve writing. In order to establish the viewpoint against many pre-supposed notions and stimulate thinking to reach concrete conclusions, the facilitator used a number of writing samples, ranging from students’ writings to newspaper articles.
