On Monday March 12, 2007 BU Computer Club introduced "BUCC file server for students". Since then, BUCC file servers have been serving student with the materials from BUCC events and other educational/useful ones. This has been contributing to reduce pressure on University Internet connection to some extent because many students download same things over and over. Furthermore, many students are benefited in their studies/research/thesis as they can get materials collected by BUCC from presenters of invited talks/seminars easily for websites.
6 members from BU Computer Club (BUCC) named Shariful Islam Ferdous Rabbi, Id: 02101073; Muttakunur Rahman Choudhury Souro, Id: 03101017; Sumit Roy, Id: 03101056; Mohibuzzaman Zico, Id: 04101013; Annajiat Alim Rasel,Id: 04101017 and Khandaker Wasim Reza Tonmoy,Id: 04101021 contributed to the first ever open source camp in Bangladesh titled "Rankstel Open Source Camp, Sylhet" concluded on Saturday, 24th March 2007 at the CSE department of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet, Bangladesh. A total of 66 students had attended the camp. Professor Dr M Zafar Iqbal inaugurated the camp on Friday, March 23, 2007 and Dr S K Das of SUST distributed certificates among the participants at the closing session on Saturday, March 24, 2007. The following topics were covered in the camp- Linux and its different distribution, Open Office, LAMP, Wikipedia etc. BUCC volunteers stayed in Sylhet for 2 days and 1 night and assisted in easier explanation of topics on Linux, Viruses, various Open Source Software (OSS) such as FileZilla, Firefox, Putty, VLC Player etc and conducted session on Website development using LAMP/WAMP.
Annajiat Alim Rasel (Id: 04101017) on behalf of BU Computer Club volunteered at Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) stall and at the Seminar, Open Source and Open Content, at SoftExpo2007, BCFCC on March 30 and March 31 2007. The seminar was marked as the biggest seminar so far in the exposition and acclaimed a lot of attention from the audience. Mr Munir Hasan and Mr Fakruzzaman presented two keynote lectures. Mr Hasan covered broadly the aspect and philosophy of Open Source while Mr Zaman gave emphasis on Open Source Business Model. As designated discussant Dr Mumit Khan of BRACU addressed the audience regarding Open Access while Dr Zahidur Rahman mentioned about cryptography limitation of US Based software.
