Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER), BRAC University has conducted a field visit to Shyamnagar Upazila at Satkhira district to analysis an agenda about exchange visit to India. The field work was conducted at Kaligonj Upazila at Satkhira district from 13-15 July 2017. In Bangladesh competition of demand of water for the water supply and sanitation, agriculture, industry, fisheries and wildlife, navigation, hydropower and recreation is accelerating day by day. The project aims to make transboundary water governance grounded in local contexts and be more inclusive and sustainable. Six Unions of Shyamnagar Upazila at Satkhira district- Kashimari, Nurnagar, Kaikhali, Ramjannnagar, Padmapukur and Gabura are selected for sensitization analysis. At the present circumstances, it is crucial to understand the problems faced by the local communities and work for the solutions. Therefore, it is necessary to perform sensitization analysis through sensitization and consultation workshops at six unions of Shyamnagar Upazila, Satkhira District to understand the gaps in policies and at the role of local stakeholders.
The main objective of this field visit was mainly about the purpose for the development of Master Water Management Plan for Shyamnagar Upazila, a visit to neighboring country India will be organized soon and the requirements for their visa, passport and other official papers were the subject of the meeting. An exchange visit will be made to visit Kanpur or Fatepur in India to understand the “Jal Chopal” and similar situation there to manage the water scarcity. This visit to India will help to modify and update the Water Master Plan at Shyamnagar Upazila. The meeting was held at Shushilan head office. The meeting took place in order to receive the consent from the stakeholders and chairmen’s of the six unions of Shyamnagar Upazila. The meeting started with a welcome speech from Mostafa Aktherujjaman, Deputy Director, Shushilan then followed by SM Abdur Rouf, chairman of Kashimari. Ms. Roufa Khanum explained them the importance of this visit to India and later on Mr. Probal Saha gave them a list of documents that they need to submit. The meeting was successful and all the stakeholders present there showed their gratitude and appreciations.
